This paper sets out to describe the status of english as foreigh language and
function of english in indonesian educational system today, by setting this in its
historical, political, socio-cultural and linguistic context. What is the impact of english
as foreign language in indonesian educational system?. Thus questions lead to the
following questions?
What historical influences (both colonial and post colonial) have been taken
into consideration when describing the English as foreign language in
indonesia today?
What role has government legislation played in shaping the current educational
situation?
What suggestion might be offered with regard to any problems that have been
identified with English as foreign language?
