CLUB AND SPEAKING ABILITY IN THE SECOND YEAR

Speaking activities within the classroom actually can give the students enormous
confidence and satisfaction as long as the researcher is able to facilitate the activities.
The research problem of the study is do the students have better English
Conversation Club they have better speaking in the second year student of SMA Negeri
1 Kamal Bangkalan. The research design is quantitative research by using statistic to
analyze data that have gotten from data resource. The statistic that use by the researcher
is product moment.The result of the research refers to the correlation between English
Conversation Club (ECC) and speaking ability of the second year students of SMA
Negeri 1 Kamal. The formula Arikunto’s Product moment was used to compute the
coefficient of correlation between ECC and speaking ability, the compute r (
Rxy
) was
0.534. The result showed that the computed r (0.534) was higher than the table r
(0.361). It can be concluded that the null hypothesis was rejected and alternative
hypothesis was accepted, so the result of the research obtained that the students have
better joining ECC they have better speaking ability.
